The world is such a wonderful place. There are so many things to see and do. But recently I’ve noticed a trend… Everyone has this idea of who they want to be and what they want to do. Which is not a bad thing by any means. However instead of aspiring to be better at who we are, we are aspiring to be someone else. We look at other people’s lives with envy. Wishing we were thinner, tanner, prettier, healthier, more fit, more adventurous, more outgoing, more spontaneous, etc. While all of these things are great and good goals to have, we are looking at it completely wrong. I personally am a huge culprit of looking at another person, wishing I had their hair, voice, skin, body, or life. But what I don’t realize is that they may be looking at me and thinking the same thing. You see, it’s a never ending cycle of everybody wishing they were someone else. But the reality of the matter is that we were given our lives and bodies for a reason. We all have this idea of a “perfect life” or a “perfect boy/girlfriend” or a “perfect body”. Here’s a shocker: no one is perfect (cue Hannah Montana song). If we spent our days enjoying the lives we have and the bodies that were given to us instead of sitting around wishing we were someone else… We might enjoy life a little more. I’m not saying don’t have aspirations. Have aspirations! Set goals! Set lots of goals! But make sure those “goals” are to become a better you not a different you. If you want to be thinner/healthier, start living a healthier lifestyle. If you want to be prettier or better looking, ask God how He feels about you. If you want to be adventurous, go on an adventure! But the most important thing is to stay you. And I know that sounds cliche but it really is so true. If God had wanted you to be another person, He would’ve created you to be that person. But He didn’t. So go be you, you lovely humans!
